NICOTINE IS STATED TO BE MORE ADDICTIVE THAN HEROIN; this is something we hear frequently. I always believed this, and I struggled against this terrible nicotine addiction for 22 years, repeatedly trying to stop. To my way of thinking, negative advertising efforts made to educate and alarm people fail because they deny the undeniable frailty and humanity of the individual smoker. A campaign of fear will only do so much. I feel that as a smoker, I believed the addiction bit because I found it so hard to stop and stay stopped, and the fear of failure kept me from trying again. Because we train ourselves to have that hit of Nicotine to cope with stress, it becomes a very powerful mix. When we have that hit of Nicotine, it scrambles the emotions; we still feel the stress, but it is mixed with pleasure signals. A powerful blend of emotions!
