Many of the people who suffer from cold sores are not totally aware of their origin. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex type 1 virus and this is altogether different from the type 2 virus which is responsible for canker sores and sometimes genital herpes. Canker sores are a type of skin complaint and they tend to be located on the inner side of the cheek.
